This World Forestry Day, we acknowledge the forest heritage of Kuala Lumpur and its surrounds and assert our aspiration for forests to continue to thrive offering vital ecosystem services to humans and essential habitat for biodiversity.

This aspiration is embodied now in Kota Hijau Kita. Kota Hijau Kita is an integrated platform created to support and strengthen a growing movement of people participating in protecting natural areas and creating refuges for biodiversity in urban areas.

Our intention is to bring like-minded groups and organizations that are working to realise a vision of liveable cities in which forest and natural areas are retained and public and private areas are regreened through rewilding initiatives and community gardens.

We believe that the participation of people and communities is a vital component of safeguarding nature in urban landscapes. Increasingly, this is also essential to building resilience to the impacts of climate change and species loss which now confront us.

This initiative has been sown with a grant from the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme and co-funding from The Habitat Foundation. It is powered by many people and organizations that are working on a voluntary basis for this vision that is larger than what we can achieve on our own.

We invite you to engage with us on this journey. We look forward to seeing this community grow. Truly we are stronger together.
